Background to disclosure based on the TNFD framework
Since its foundation, the KOSÉ Group has benefited much from the natural environment in its business of manufacturing cosmetics. Conserving and restoring biodiversity is a serious management issue for KOSÉ, and it recognizes the need to continue its business activities while protecting the global environment in which we live. To this end, it must analyze the biodiversity-related risks and impacts based on objective facts, and take effective measures. In this context, in January 2024, KOSÉ joined the TNFD Forum, which supports the establishment of TNFD-based information disclosure. At the same time, it registered as a TNFD Early Adopter, aiming for early disclosures, and has since been analyzing, evaluating, and examining information disclosures concerning biodiversity-related risks.

This report identifies biodiversity-related risks related to KOSÉ’s business activities and analyzes and evaluates its efforts to create business opportunities that contribute to the conservation and restoration of biodiversity, with respect to water resources and palm oil—which are important natural capital that is essential to the manufacture of cosmetics. Based on the results of this analysis and evaluation, with regard to water resources, KOSÉ will strengthen its initiatives to reduce water consumption and conserve water, as well as initiatives that contribute to biodiversity around its factories, and with regard to palm oil, it will promote sustainable procurement and use.
KOSÉ is committed to actively promoting Group-wide initiatives for realization of a nature-positive society.
