Health and Productivity Management

Health Declaration

At KOSÉ Group, we believe the physical and mental health of employees is an important management foundation for our business growth.
At the KOSÉ Group, the representative director/president is responsible for promoting health management, and under the president’s leadership we position the promotion of employee health as one of the key management issues, and have adopted the concept of "Health Management" in which Employee health risk equals Management risk. Based on this concept, we are working on health management as one of the key management issues with the aim of reducing this risk.
In order to achieve sustainable company growth through health and productivity management, the KOSÉ Group companies, the health insurance association, industrial health staff, and the labor union are working together to promote employee health through the "Health Care Enhancement Project" council under the leadership of the director in charge of Human Resources.

Initiatives to Improve Employee Health

We established the “Wellness Promotion Office” in 2024 as a company-wide, cross-functional organization dedicated to protecting employees’ health, safety, and overall wellbeing—the source of our corporate vitality—and to enhancing performance. As part of our commitment to “Health and Productivity Management,” we are continuously implementing initiatives from a variety of perspectives.

<Support for Women-Specific Health Issues>

We provide financial aid for getting free gynecological checkups including breast cancer and cervical cancer examinations. In order to support employees in balancing fertility treatments, we have established a specific paid leave system that can be taken regardless of gender. We also provide subsidies to employees wishing to undergo egg freezing.

Our annual stress check includes unique questions specific to women's health. This has revealed the reality that menstrual-related symptoms and menopausal symptoms are impacting their work performance (presenteeism). Furthermore, it was found that only about 30% of employees (as of 2024) took the action of "visiting a gynecologist" for these symptoms. By continuously conducting unique surveys in this manner, we are able to implement more effective measures.

Promoting Health Checkups

We promote regular health checkups with the goal of early detection and prevention of diseases.
For those who have not yet undergone regular checkups, we frequently encourage them to take a regular checkup through respective workplaces, maintaining a 100% participation rate for regular health checkups.

Original health checkup course & optional examination assistance

We have established an original periodical checkup course for each age group, so that employees can receive medical checkups at no cost.
The KOSÉ Health Insurance Association and the company's industrial health staff have been working to identify the disease trends of employees and to determine the most effective health checkup items.
Also, we provide financial aid for getting free gynecological checkups including breast cancer and cervical cancer examinations.
We are working to achieve a 80% rate of gynecological checkups, which is on par with Western countries.

<Addressing Physical and Mental Health Needs>

Proactive Activities for Mental and Physical Health

Proactive Activities for Mental and Physical Health

The KOSÉ Group uses its own criteria to classify the results of employee health checkups, with industrial physicians, public health nurses, and nurses providing health guidance to those employees who are flagged for an interview. Public health nurses or nurses send employees who need additional follow-up or further testing e-mails or letters recommending a medical examination or provide support for self-care.
We have also been conducting annual stress checks since before they became mandatory in Japan and regularly carry out workplace satisfaction surveys. By improving the workplace, we support the health of every employee.

External Consultation Desks

An external 24-hour health consultation desk and mental health consultation desk are in place, which employees and their families can freely use at any time for mental or physical health issues. We regularly notify everyone of how to use these services, which also serve as an opportunity to think about one’s own health more closely. They are also effectively used as a point of contact for emergencies.

We have established various consultation channels to meet a wide range of employee needs.

◆Consultation Desk with Occupational Health Staff:We collaborate with industrial physicians and counselors based on the employee’s specific needs.

◆Health and Childcare Consultation Service for Women:Implemented by Kose Health Insurance Association

Childcare consultation services are available to male employees as well.

Wellness Education and Information for Employees

At KOSÉ, we provide training programs tailored to employees of various age groups and job functions to help them understand their own health, acquire accurate health knowledge, and take appropriate action. The training covers a wide range of topics—including mental health, lifestyle disease prevention, and women’s health management—and is designed based on the latest information.

Initiatives for Mental Health Issues

In order to ensure appropriate responses at each workplace, we conduct “line care” training for managers and supervisors and self-care training for employees including new hires, placing emphasis on preventing mental health issues. We also conduct stress checks to assess the mental health status of employees and respond quickly. In addition to stress checks, we also conduct surveys on health and lifestyle habits to gain a multifaceted understanding of employeesʼ health issues.
We combine these results with other information including health checkup data and working hours, and commission an external specialist organization to conduct a group analysis. We actively utilize the results of analysis not only for individual support for those with high stress levels but also for organizational improvement and workplace environment development based on the analysis.
In order to continuously and effectively advance these initiatives, we invested approximately 6.3 million yen in FY2024 for stress checks and related analyses. Going forward, we will continue to leverage external expertise and implement data-driven countermeasures to foster a workplace that is both physically and mentally healthy and comfortable to work.

<Strengthening the Health Foundation>

Creating a Safe and Secure Workplace

Through safety and health committees at each workplace, we are promoting efforts to eliminate work-related injuries.
The primary cause of workplace injuries in FY2024 was “Slips, Trips, and Falls” which accounted for 45.9% of all incidents. As these incidents can result in a risk of lost workdays, we are actively implementing countermeasures.
In addition, infectious disease medical specialists and chemical substance control specialists have been appointed as advisory staff to establish a work environment where employees can work with peace of mind.
