Sustainability KOSÉ Makes CDP A List in Two Categories—Climate Change and Water Security—in Third Consecutive Year Five Years in a Row for Climate Change, Three Years for Water Security 2025.02.21
KOSÉ Corporation (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazutoshi Kobayashi) has been placed on CDP’s corporate A List in two categories in the international nonprofit’s survey of action on climate change and water security for 2024. KOSÉ’s double-A score recognizes the company’s environmental initiatives and strategies and is its third in as many years. The company has now made the A List in five consecutive years for climate change and three years in a row for water security.
The KOSÉ Group adopted “Creating Beauty in a Sustainable World” as its corporate message in 1991. The group’s current medium to long-term vision, Vision for Lifelong Beauty Partner―Milestone2030*1, includes a Sustainability Strategy*2 with aims to resolve social and environmental issues and to bring about value creation and stronger infrastructure for ensuring business continuity into the future.

As material issues to be addressed by the KOSÉ Group, the Sustainability Strategy specifies playing a role in solving environmental issues—relating, for example, to climate change, water resources, and forest resources—and promoting reduction of environmental impact. The group participates in international initiatives for realizing decarbonization, such as the Science Based Targets*3 initiative, and discloses information relating to climate change and natural capital in line with international frameworks, such as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). In addition to CO2 emissions reduction targets to achieve by 2030, the KOSÉ Group has set targets to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and net-zero emissions by 2050. The group is taking steps to reduce CO2 emissions accordingly under a Low-Carbon Transition Plan*6. This includes efforts to reduce emissions throughout the value chain, such as procuring renewable energy at the main production facilities and calculating carbon footprints through the visualization of the CO2 emissions from products. To promote effective utilization of water resources, which are essential for cosmetics manufacturing, the KOSÉ Group is working to conserve water resources by reducing water consumption and reusing water at production facilities. At the Minami-Alps Factory, scheduled to start operating in 2026, the KOSÉ Group plans to strengthen these activities by shining a spotlight on the rich water resources of Yamanashi Prefecture.
*3 Greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets aligned with science-based reduction scenarios for achieving the goal set under the Paris Agreement of limiting the increase in the global average temperature to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

The KOSÉ Group will keep working alongside all stakeholders to realize living in harmony with a healthy Earth for generations by advancing its own sustainability activities contributing to the resolution of social challenges, such as climate change, protection of water resources, and forest conservation.
